Biography

George P. Antone (born 1935) joined the Appalachian State University History department in 1967 as an Assistant Professor specializing in African American history, race relations, Willis Duke Weatherford (1876-1970), labor, and business history. He studied at Rutgers University (Ed.D., 1962) and Vanderbilt University (M.A., 1967, Ph.D., 1969). In 1979, Antone became Chair of the History Department at Appalachian and received the College of Arts and Science's only endowed chair, I.G. Greer Distinguished Professorship in History in 1981. He joined the Historical Society of North Carolina in 1984. Brother of Sister Therese Antone, George Antone joined the faculty of Salve Regina University and served as the Director of the Office of International Programs and Academic Grants at Salve Regina University. He has published and presented papers in the field of business history.
