Biography

Frank Child, a successful marine photographer and resident of Newport, died on Jan. 8, 1904, of Bright's Disease. His interest in photography developed as a boy while he worked in his father's photography studio.

In addition to his marine photography, he documented vessels undergoing speed trials for the U.S. Navy, and became known for his photos of sailing and steam vessels. He also prepared exhibits for the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, representing Rhode Island and exhibits on the torpedo and fisheries for the U.S. government. Child, 40, left a widow and five children.
