Biography

Bill Clinton is an American politician from Arkansas who served as the 42nd President of the United States (1993-2001).

Clinton signed the National and Community Service Act in 1994 that created Americorps and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Prior to that action, President George H.W. Bush signed the National and Community Service Act legislation in 1990 creating precursors to AmeriCorps. In 2002, President George W. Bush expanded the initiative to 25,000 volunteers by creating the USA Freedom Corps, which includes AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, Senior Corps, Learn and Serve America, and Citizen Corps, after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
