The records of the Academic Dean, Sister Mary Alban Kerwick document her professional work and activities while serving as the Academic Dean of Salve Regina University. Such activities include but are not limited to promoting the development of the student teacher program, examining the potential for a physical education program for Salve Regina students, and coordinating the site visit of Reverend James McGinley, consultant in Higher Education for Association on American Colleges. Biographical / Historical

Sister Mary Alban Kerwick was born in Providence, Rhode Island to John J. Kerwick and Mary A. (Cavanaugh) Kerwick. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Providence College as well as a Master’s degree from The Catholic University of America. Between 1932-1935, Kerwick entered the religious order and became a member of the Sisters of Mercy. She served as an educator teaching in various schools in Rhode Island and later became the Academic Dean at Salve Regina University. While at Salve Regina University, Sister Mary Alban Kerwick fostered relationships within the academic and local community; in particular, promoting the student teacher program within the local school system and examining the potential for a physical education program for Salve Regina students through Newport Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA). On January 7, 1998, Sister Mary Alban Kerwick passed away leaving behind a solid footprint in continuing to advance the curriculum and educational programming at Salve Regina University.
