Biography
Fifth president of Salve Regina College/University, serving 1973-1994.
Sister Lucille was the daughter of Daniel and Catherine (Hamill) McKillop of County Antrim, Ireland. She was the sister of Sister Roselina McKillop. She professed her vows in 1944.
She earned her Bachelor's degree in mathematics from St. Xavier University in Chicago; a Master's degree in mathematics from the University of Notre Dame; and a doctorate in mathematics curriculum and instruction from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She taught in several schools before coming to Salve Regina.
Sister Lucille received numerous awards and honorary degrees throughout her career. The Newport County Chamber of Commerce named her its Woman of the Year in 1981. The National Conference of Christians and Jews awarded her with its Brotherhood Award. The McKillop Library at Salve Regina is named after her.
After her tenure as president of Salve Regina, she served as president of Religious Sisters of Mercy, Regional Community of Chicago. She died at the age of 83 in 2008.
